JERUSALEM WANGANUI RIVER
Title: JERUSALEM WANGANUI RIVER
Artist: William Bouwmeester
Material: Oil on Canvas
Picture Size: 83cm x 63cm
Year: 1994
Conditions: Good
A large oil on board painting signed Willem B. William Bouwmeester is a well known New Zealand artist who came from Holland and emigrated to New Zealand in the 1950s or thereabouts. Quite a well known artist. This painting is quite a large piece of work centered around Jerusalem, and is entitled Jerusalem Wanganui River. It is dated on the back as 1994. That is the Title the artist used, so that is the title of the painting. It is not my declaration or spelling or opinion etc etc, just simply the title as given by the artist some 16 years ago. If this worries or offends you, you may want to get hold of him and remind him incase some other future works centre around the same area is in the pipe line.
This art relates to James K Baxter & the Jerusalem history etc near Wanganui. It is quite striking. Is bold and has good colour. Has a nice real rimu frame. Could do with a bit clean and a dust, but apart from that it is fine. Great if you collect Willem Bs work or just want a striking different painting.

‘Solstice’ by Lyndsay Brock. Acrylic on canvas. Measurements; 76.4cm x 59cm x 3.5cm. This painting, from the artist’s ‘Masque’ series, depicts a veiled woman wearing an exotic mask and head-dress. It featurs the finely textured finish typical of the artist’s work, complete with a complex border design incorporating ‘Lyndish’ text in overlaid copper & gilt. The ‘Masque series was initially inspired by the splendour of festival costumes & masks worn in Venezia.
Lyndsay Brock is an award winning artist. Her work is varied, ranging from figurative to abstract, and a common theme is a touch of symbolism or mystery. Paintings reside in local collections, and many have been purchased by European and American buyers. Te Papa Museum recently added her design work to their collection.

The back is tatty and the label on the back reads, M. J. Bennett, Ltd…..Importers and Decorators……Karangahape Road, Newton, Broadway Newmarket. The rest has fallen off and the brown paper has with age fallen to bits. Fine nails are bent and rusted. The picture is titled “Caravan Resting At the Gates – Jerusalem”. Artist Tony Binder.
It looks to be a watercolour, very nice scene of camels and men outside a ancient gate, a very nice taste of when people did the yearly trip to the holy land. Glassed and framed. Another pencil mark in the right hand corner, this looks the real thing but I suspect it’s a PRINT. Very interesting.
The art is In its original condition while the frame is a bit loose for somehow, but no trouble to hang up at all.
