Description
Author’s Biography
Originally, Sheila graduated in Yorkshire, where she was born in the Dales, with a National Diploma in design and illustration, and pottery, and an Art Teacher’s Diploma, following which she taught art and crafts in a West Riding grammar school.
Following her marriage, with many moves around the country following her husband’s career and family commitments, and at times teaching in various centres for adult education, Sheila settled in north Shropshire, then in south Cheshire, for the last thirty years. Sheila has been working as a freelance artist, and has become fascinated by the transparent water colour medium, coinciding with the acquisition of the family narrow boat. Sheila wishes to express the atmosphere and character of the canals, a never ending source of inspiration to this day. Her work is well known on the canals.
Over the years, Sheila has had several one man shows, and exhibits her work locally, where it is much sought after. It is found in private homes and collections around the world.
Sheila’s work conveys her love of the countryside, the changing seasons, atmosphere and moods, the mellowing of man-made structures, and nature, with many subjects found in her daily life, holiday travels abroad, and on the waterways.
