John Johnston was an Auckland painter and photographer. This painting won a New Zealand Painting and Printmaker Award, but cannot trace the year. It would have been in the 1970s or early 1980s.

F.E. Gardner exhibited at the NZ Academy of Fine Arts from 1897-1899, according to their published records. It is a very accomplished work possibly of that period 1895-1910. This is an original signed oil painting. It’s very large and in an original rewarewa native timber wood frame. Its size is huge at 1100mm high and 700mm wide. For those who collect very rare New Zealand fine art old painting artists may be interested in this.
This is a very fine detailed oil painting of some of New Zealand traditional native botany and FE Gardner may have been an artist painting New Zealand Botany to be used coloured plate illustrations in very old NZ books. The painting is signed on the back. This is very special an original. Hard to see another one.. Not of this size.
